Ever dream of getting away to write?  Costa Rica is a perfect paradise setting for a writer’s retreat with ample time to write, reflect and learn with a dedicated team of publishing professionals to support, inspire and guide you. Expand your creativity while you enjoy breath-taking views of mountains, valleys, and ocean in one of the most bio-diverse regions on the planet! Everything a writer could ask for!

Our writer’s retreat is all inclusive (except roundtrip airfare home), and will be offered from June 22 to June 29, 2019. Your registration fee includes:

  • all workshop offerings
  • individual consultation with a writing coach, editor, and publisher about your manuscript
  • airport pick up/drop off
  • accommodation
  • all meals served on the villa
  • all guided excursions outlined for the week

We will contact you by phone for a clarity call and discuss the project you plan to work on at the retreat and your commitment to publishing your work.


Once your application is reviewed and accepted, you will be required to secure your spot by making a non-refundable deposit of $600 USD within 48 hours of application acceptance– as space is limited to 12 people. Balance due April 15th, 2019.


Our editor will invite you to submit up either your book synopsis (if you have not yet started writing) or up to 20 pages of the project, you plan to work on at this retreat so she can review it and prepare feedback for your one-on-one editorial session in June.

Over the course of the week, The Right Place to Write facilitators will offer small group workshops structured to guide and support you on your writing and publishing journey. You will also receive a one-on-one consultation with a writing coach, editor, and publisher, plus lots of personal time to write your masterpiece! In addition, participants will have several opportunities to explore Costa Rica’s natural beauty with two guided excursions, some fun at the beach and tourist shopping! Did we mention the menu? Our villa chef will prepare custom designed meals for the group’s food preferences and/or sensitivities.


Day 1

Welcome, introductions, relaxation

Days 2 through 6

Morning Yoga and or Meditation (optional) – to instill creativity and clarity

Evening— open discussion and readings

Since 2010, Dawn James has helped over 150 authors fulfill their dream of becoming a published author. There’s nothing quite like seeing your name in print and Dawn cherishes the relationship she builds with each of her clients in their quest to become published.

Dawn is the Founder and Managing Director of Publish and Promote, a company dedicated to teaching you “the business of being a successful author”.

Before launching Publish and Promote, Dawn spent over 20 years working in the business sector in various senior management roles and was responsible for the strategic planning and execution for multinational corporations. Christine Bode is a professional editor and proofreader who is articulate and has a keen eye for details. Christine understands how to create impact through written communication to engage audiences. Her experience is garnered largely from her former 20+ year career as an administrative assistant for lawyers, doctors, architects, and engineers. She has extensive knowledge of business, legal and medical terminology and has edited every type of document from legal and medical reports to liner notes for a CD; from press releases to websites; and Ph.D. theses to novels.
